Pastor's Letter for the June 27, 2021 bulletin

I am looking forward to this week’s Sts. Peter & Paul Feast Day Mass and picnic in Lore City, on Tuesday, June 29th, with the Mass beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by the picnic. Praise God that we can have events like these again.  I see that the weather report is predicting a 50% chance of afternoon and evening storms – something we so often expect this time of year.  So, please know that we would move everything into the Sts. Peter & Paul Social Hall if rains do develop.  Additionally, I’d like to marshal in as many as we can to our “Good Weather Committee” for that event so that we can enjoy some of the outdoor picnic games that are being planned.  Please sign up for the picnic (back table of the Oratory and on a table in the Marian Room) so that the proper quantities of food can be provided by the CWC picnic committee members.  Thanks and God bless!

Please note that we have increased our parish order for The Word Among Us monthly devotional magazine, which has reflections on the readings at Mass for each day, to 50 copies each month (up from 35).  You can find them on the back table of Sts. Peter & Paul Oratory, in the wooden magazine rack in the back hallway of St. Benedict Church, some on a table in the Marian Room and some on the main bookshelf of the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel.  Thank you to a parishioner who has also donated several copies of the Magnificat monthly devotional magazine as well and are available in the wooden magazine rack –while they last!

We have benefited in several ways from Fr. Jeremiah Hahn’s time of formation connected with our parish.  One of the key fruits of his efforts and prayers is the development of our parish’s St. Vincent de Paul Society local conference.

Another fruit of his ministry here was establishing small faith-sharing groups, called “Discipleship Quads.”  We currently have 3 groups of 3-5 people that meet weekly.  There is a curriculum of discussion topics and reading material to prepare for and to facilitate the weekly time of reflection.  I would like to invite all parishioners who would like to participate in a faith sharing group like these.  We would plan to form them specifically as men’s and women’s groups and these groups have proven to flow well even with differing age groups and backgrounds.  My own parents have participated in groups like these for many years and could testify to their benefit. Please let me know if you would like to participate in one of these newly forming groups.  The current groups meet on Wednesday evenings, but additional groups could meet on other days and at other times of the day.

We are planning for another short trek for our Holy Hikers this Sunday (today) afternoon, June 27th.  If you would like to carpool or caravan, I plan to leave from the Gomber Avenue parking lot at 2:30 p.m. Otherwise, you could simply look for us at the parking lot at the beginning of the Swim Beach Trailhead parking lot at Seneca Lake Park at 3:00 p.m. The weather report is calling for 88º, “very hot!”  So, please wear a hat! We will look for the trail with the most shade from that starting point. It might be fitting to have the swim beach right there at the end of the hike!  Anyway, all are welcome for these hikes.  Please feel free to recommend trails at other parks that you have enjoyed.  Thanks!

May the Lord help us to experience the transforming power of God’s mercy!  May Our Lord help us to be always ready for the gift of eternal life in Heaven!
