Pastor’s Letter for the October 6, 2019 bulletin

With fall-like weather finally beginning to prevail this time of year we settle in for some of our key annual faith formation programs.

Central to this is the beginning of this year’s RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) group. We are planning to begin with a spaghetti & potluck gathering this Thursday, October 10th at 6:30 p.m. in our Conference Room (adjacent to the Social Hall, entering through the left door along Gomber Avenue). This group is both for those who are preparing for the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation as adults, which would be celebrated at the Easter Vigil in April 2020 and for those who would like a review of the teachings of our Catholic Faith. Sometimes our interest level and attentiveness are “keener” when we face issues of faith as adults. This group is one of those key venues for exploring our faith in more detail.

Please watch the bulletin, bulletin boards and our website for additional faith formation gatherings in the near future. In the works are a discussion group on Vatican II documents, a Bible study group and a new cycle of the ChristLife personal and parish renewal program.

Our Calix Society addiction recovery support group is also meeting this week on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Again, this group is not only for those who themselves are seeking support for recovery but also for family and close friends. A good faith foundation is key for all who are involved in addiction recovery. We have just begun a DVD series on the “Spirituality of the Twelve Steps” as a background for discussion in this group. Please contact Peggy [(740) 260-9519] or me for additional information.

I am happy to announce plans for a pilgrimage to the Holy Land & Egypt in October 2020. Our tour conductors are from Catholic families from Bethlehem and the tour is fairly comprehensive to include the northern, Sea of Galilee and Nazareth area, the southern Jerusalem and Bethlehem area as well as going to Mt. Sinai and Egypt. I’m planning to promote this throughout our diocese and the surrounding dioceses. There will be a couple of information meetings on the weekend of November 9th & 10th. You can see the brochures on the bulletin boards, in the Marian Room and on the back table at Sts. Peter & Paul in Lore City as well as speaking with me personally for more details.

Starting next month an additional line in our bulletin in the financial reporting corner will include our weekly target amount for staying within our annual budget. This will be in addition to the amount of the weekly collections that is already reported each week. This is at the request of members of both our Financial Advisory Council and our Pastoral Advisory Council.

May the Lord help us to grow in our faith together, ever more joyfully, always ready for the gift of eternal life!
